MUSIC MONDAY CONCERTS

Summer 2015

 

The Sixth Season of Music Mondays begins July 6th and each Monday evening thereafter through August 31st.  The free concerts are supported by City  of Gresham Arts & Culture grant and Multnomah County  Arts Coalition grant and presented by Gresham’s Center for the Arts Foundation.

 

Concerts are held at Gresham’s Arts Plaza at 401 NE 2nd Street, between Hood and Kelly Avenues.  Music begins at 6:30 pm, ending at 8:00 pm.  The community is invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to spread out over the lawn and Plaza.

 

The concerts will commence with a new project, “Rising Stars” performing Broadway Sounds.  Area high school sophomores and juniors will participate in a collaborative and authentic learning environment experiencing the components of musical theater.  The Rising Star Project uses the resources and professional knowledge that exist at Stumptown Stages and the Center for the Arts Foundation with connecting students with professionals in a week-long workshop. Broadway Sounds will feature a student cast and musicians, student technical crew and stage-set art.

 

The concert program features crowd favorite music genres and opportunities to swing, sway and jive the evening away.

 

Monday July 6th Rising Stars. High school students performing “Broadway Sounds”. A new summer workshop project for sophomores & juniors from area high schools, learning from professionals.  Workshop covers drama & vocal, musicians, set design and sound/light taught by are professionals.  A joint project of Center for the Arts Foundation and Stumptown Stages.

 

Monday July 13th  Julie McCarl  and  Bodacious          

Americana song, piano, guitar and on stage charm have made this group a premier event. Plan to enjoy and harmonize with them all evening long.

 

Monday July 20th   Picante                                                                                              Enjoy the Hot Latin Rhythms from one of Portland’s premier Afro-Cuban Jazz Bands.  

Monday  July 27th  Kathy Boyd and Phoenix Rising                                                                  Bluegrass winner of the 2014 International Music & Entertainment Association Holiday Song of the Year. This group connects with the audience both on and off the stage.

 

Monday August 3rd  Sister Mercy                                            

High energy Blues Rock Band that really delivers. 

 

Monday August  10th  Saturated Phats                                               

Pop Rock with a unique sound and perfect harmony.

 

Monday August  17th  Tony Starlight                                                  

Big Band through ‘70’s standards --- Enjoy this love letter to the bygone days of live stage entertainment. A really great musical experience!

 

Monday August 24th  Norman Sylvester Band                       

Classic NW Blues from Cascade Blues Assoc.”Lifetime Achievement” winner “Boogie Cat” Norman Sylvester. A totally unique musical evening! 

 

Monday August  31st  Geno Michaels Band                                

 

Classic & Neo-Soul, R&B, and Jazz/Funk ---You can Feel the Rhythm. This group really covers a wide variety for your listening and dancing pleasure.

Come enjoy the classic cars at the Endless Summer Cruise-In's each Wednesday. This event is brought to you by the Pharaoh's Street Rodder's Car Club and features over 65 cars and their owners to Historic Downtown Gresham each Wednesday during the summer.

This is the kickoff event for the Annual Rockin' Round the Block Car Show! Teams compete in the ever popular bed races on Friday night. The sidewalks fill up fast with spectators as they cheer on the very creative mobile beds as teams compete for honor and prizes. If you plan on dining out this evening, please plan ahead and make reservations becauase this is always a packed and fun event leading up to tomorrow's main event and fesitivities. 

Gresham's annual Rockin' Round the Block Bed Races will take place in downtown Gresham on Main Avenue between 1st and 5th Streets. The races begin at 7:00 p.m on Friday.
